It started out as a joke. She asked for my number. Imagine. A girl asking for a guy’s number so

I said No.

Okay, it was kind of jokey. She looked like she didn’t mean it but then straightened her face and said, ‘I mean it. I really do.’ But, but

I said No.

The confidence she was oozing. Asking for it in front of my two friends but still

I said No.

I’ve got to admit that it was an awkward moment. Never had I met such audacity in my entire lifetime but

I said No.

So my two friends left us in the room and went, thinking that I’d somehow gone bonkers because

I said No.

Not so long after they’d left, I received a text from one of them telling me to stop being a jerk and get laid. I laughed it off because when you say no, there’s no backing down. So, in my head

I said No.

For them, there was more to it than it met the eye. It wasn’t about the number alone.¬† There was more, in their opinion, but still

I said No.

So I asked her,’ Okay, why exactly do you want it?’ She replied, ‘Because I like you.’ At this point, the no started fading. It wasn’t as affirmative. But still

I said No.

She rose and moved closer to me. Every hair in whatever part of the body stood. It started becoming a conundrum. Should I say yes or no. The latter prevailed so

I said No.

‘How about I ask for something else instead of the number,’ she retorted. Damn! For a second, I thought of Joseph of the Bible. With that in mind

I said No.

She moved even closer and held my hand, almost making me freeze. I asked,’What do you want?’ She said, ‘Your guess is as good as mine.’Goodness gracious! The guts. I freed my hand and told her stop it. In short,

I said No.

I could picture my friends making me a laughing stock because

I said No.

They’d ask me for the results because the squad always demands for results but I’d tell them that

I said No.

Disappointed, the girl stood and left.

For five minutes, I stood still, wondering why the hell

I said No.
